Drumming, whether it be drum set drumming, bongos, congas etc can have lasting impacts on your mental and physical health. The chart above is accurate, with many cases citing it's authenticity. Some of the more obvious ones like burning calories or increases energy can't be overlooked, as they give you many of the same benefits of cardio exercise. Speaking from personal experience, there are times from practicing or playing shows that I was really pushing myself, sweating and feeling my heart pumping hard; just like a good workout. It relieves depression? Again, sources are sited but an easy way to think about this is that drumming is a one man sport, it has all the benefits of playing a physical sport but with you as your own adversary, and being in your own head, pushing yourself to be better at the instrument relieves feelings of sadness and powerlessness. Last but not least, it completely obliterates stress. This is similar to the effects of exercise in general which is always recommended, but with drumming there is a hard to explain spiritual aspect, especially if you are playing along to songs that you love! It's like being inside the music, not just listening, it's like being a part of the song, a part of the story, a part of the world. Hard to be stressed when you're one with the universe :-)
